Guzheng 古箏

Guzheng 古箏 is the Chinese Zither - “gu” means ancient and “zheng” means zither. It is also commonly known as the “Chinese tableharp”. The guzheng is one of the most popular, expressive and elegant traditional Chinese instruments, with a history of 2,500 years in China. The modern guzheng has 21 strings, and they are suspended by wooden bridges across the middle. The tail of the instrument creates an S shape, which captures its elegance and utility design of the instrument. It is tuned in a pentatonic scale, and is played by attaching finger-picks to pluck the strings. The sound of the guzheng is highly expressive in which players use the left hand to bend the strings to produce pitch-altering sounds.
