The Classical Guitar is a fretted, Western musical instrument that has 6 strings. Its origin traces back to the lute from the 13th century. The guitar is made out of wood, and is played by plucking/strumming the strings. Today, there are numerous types of guitars including electric, acoustics, flat-top, jazz, etc. - as well as numerous types of techniques and genres. Guitars are chordophone instruments, which means that it use vibrating strings to produce sound. Guitars are both monophonic and polyphonic instruments which means that they can play single-lined melodies, as well as multiple lines of melodies and chords at the same time.
